Haunting shadows

inferiority complex, it's called. that makes one put up a false front, hiding behind this seemingly impenetrable facade. the fear, of being exposed and thus vulnerable, heightens one's alertness astoundingly to probes from concerned bystanders, in a protective - and almost defensive - manner to keep the mask intact. noone is allowed to enter.

none at all.

the deepest fears remain skeletons in the closet for years to come, haunting one subconsciously. the fear that someone - anyone - will know the depth of the hurt one had once felt, further intensifies the need to keep everyone out. fear itself is not shameful; what is, is the way one shuns from trust all together.

trust is very delicate. it's shadowed for indeterminate years long after being misplaced once, after the hurt was done. the feelings of hurt may dissipate with time, but shadows of once-misplaced trust will not. they stay and they haunt.

how could anyone hurt the one who loves them?
